—In this work applications of Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization techniques have been used to improve the performance of the Automatic Generation Control (AGC) in a three area power system. Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization have been used for optimizing the parameters of a Fuzzy logic controller (acting as the secondary controller in the AGC system). The controllers give improved dynamic performances for three area thermal-thermal-hydro power system under a variety of operating conditions.
