A Comparison of Efficiency of Data Transfer by Using Rsync, Rsync+SSH and Dropbox

Wiman Banditvilai and Sirapat Boonkrong

Abstract—This paper presents a comparison of data transfer by using three protocols: Rsync, Rsync+SSH and Dropbox on Ubuntu. The efficiency or the speed of the data transfer is measured through data downloads and data retrievals. The results show that Rysnc is the most efficient of the three protocols in both transfer speed and bandwidth usage.

Index Terms—Rsync, Rsync+SSH, Dropbox.
