Biometrics for Global Web Authentication: an Open Source Java/J2EE-Based Approach

Ruchir Choudhry

Abstract—In the modern age an enterprise spans from one continents to other to localize their service and to be close to the customer. This brings enormous challenge to the security architecture. As organizations need to distribute sensitive information to authorized parties over the network, they have increasingly been adopting biometrics as a necessary component for authentication. Biometrics is based on the physical characteristics such as finger print, retina scan, voice recognition, facial recognition, vascular recognition. Over the last couple of years we have been working on using biometric based integration to advance the security model of the existing J2EE/Java EE based platform and to provide solution to the open source community. These security differ from traditional infrastructure security in terms of addressing the end-to-end security requirements of an application by mitigating security risks at the functional and deployment level, securing business objects and data across logical tiers, securing communications, and protecting the application from unauthorized internal and external threats and vulnerabilities, by biometrically signing it.
